May 2023 Migration Update: Increase to TSMIT

On 5 May 2023, the Department of Home Affairs (Hon Clare O'Neil) announced significant changes to the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) that would take effect shortly.

TSMIT Increase

The TSMIT is the minimum remuneration threshold employers must meet to sponsor workers.

From 1 July 2023, the TSMIT will increase from $53,900 to $70,000 per annum. The new threshold is approximately where the TSMIT should have been if it had been properly indexed over the past ten years.

New nominations lodged ON or After that date will be required to meet the new TSMIT of $70,000 or the annual market salary rate, whichever is higher.

Applications lodged BEFORE 1 July 2023 will not be affected.
