On 14 May 2024, the Australian government announced that the planning levels for the 2024-25 permanent Migration Program will be set at 185,000 places. This is a slight reduction in the numbers of the previous year. Of the 185,000 places, it awarded 33,300 places in total to the States/Territories Migration program. This is an increase in the amount awarded in the previous year.
The 2024-25 allocation for the ACT is 1,800 nomination places. The ACT government has received the following allocation for 2024-25 under the ACT Migration program:
Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) | 1,000 |
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) | 800 |
Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) | 0 |
Total | 1,800 |
The Department of Home Affairs has increased the allocation for ACT nominations, an increase of 600 places from the previous year. This is a much welcomed increase in the ACT Migration program and will allow more invitations this financial year than the previous year.
Nomination allocations are the number of new primary applicants each state or territory can nominate in a program year. New applications are added to the existing on-hand caseload in these visa categories.
From 2025–26, the Migration Program will move to a multi-year planning model, extending the Program planning horizon to four years from the current twelve month cycle.
